Bump-in

The period in which material, equipment and overlay arrive at a venue and are installed, before the event opens.

Why it matters operationally

Bump-in is where a plan meets a loading dock. Every quantity that was argued over in a spreadsheet turns up as pallets in a service road during a window that is usually measured in days and shared with every other department doing the same thing. Sequencing depends on knowing totals in advance; a department that turns up with three times what was agreed takes the dock time of the one behind it.
